PAX reveals changes in media habits - Ásia
Synovate’s PAX survey of affluent consumers reveals a slight decline in television watching as this group is seen to be watching TV on the move – via personal computers, mobile phones etc while out of the home. However, Channel NewsAsia and Bloomberg showed an increase in viewership.
Amongst the other channels, National Geographic Channel and AXN also did well. ESPN remains the leading sports channel with a growth in top management watching.
In general, the regional magazines declined but Forbes and National Geographic Magazine did show positive growth in this survey. The world is changing fast and, while the declines are not dramatic, magazines must adjust to the new landscape.
The PAX survey is also useful to agencies and brand managers as it paints a regional picture (11 markets) of the consumers who have the most spending power and who tend to lead market trends.
Nielsen Media Index 2007 for Singapore is published
The story for Singapore is much as the regional PAX survey. The Nielsen Media Index 2007 showed overall a slight dip in newspaper and magazine readership, a trend repeated for terrestrial television. There were certain magazines which were reported with good growth so it does point to content being the prime driver for success. Cable television subscribers continue to grow and usage of the Internet is high (51% accessed it Yesterday) in the Republic because of the broadband access. Cinema and radio are holding their own.
